Celebrating Matrix

As a designer and longtime lover of public art, Matrix has always felt like a hidden gem to me—a treasure nestled right in plain sight at the doors of the Ventura Library. From the first moment I saw Sally Weber’s creation, it stopped me dead in my tracks. The way the light moves through it, casting shapes and colors that change throughout the day, feels almost alive. It’s as if the piece speaks directly to those who take a moment to truly see it.

When I realized we were approaching the 25th anniversary of Matrix, I knew it was time to spotlight this remarkable piece that has helped define Ventura’s artistic spirit for decades. This is why I’m beyond thrilled to co-sponsor the event with the County of Ventura Library and to welcome Sally Weber herself back to Ventura. Sally will share the story behind Matrix—her inspiration, her process, and the installation that put Ventura on the arts map 25 years ago.
